Natural diamond

Last reviewed · June 2026

Natural diamond. A diamond formed underground over hundreds of millions of years and mined from the earth. Natural diamonds retain 20–60% of retail value on resale, depending on quality, certification, and brand — significantly more than lab-grown equivalents.

Natural diamonds derive part of their value from scarcity and from the established resale network that has priced them for decades.

Every GIA report explicitly identifies whether a stone is natural or lab-grown — buyers will not mistake one for the other.
